Having collected the bikes around midday we had the afternoon to fill prior to leaving tomorrow, what better way to spend a couple of hours than a beer from the local Brewery!
John also has a dance with a Fremont Clown (I don't think it was anything to do with the beer).
On Sunday morning we catch a ferry across Puget Sound to Kingston & in to the Olympic National Park, at Lake Crescent the historic lodge is our lunch stop.
The weather at the crystal clear lake is good but some ominous clouds are gathering from the West.
The moss on the trees & the ferns should give us a clue to the normal weather in this 'Rain Forest' & as we head towards Neah Bay the mist rolls in from the sea & turns to persistent rain.
This is close to the most North Westerly point of the USA (they don't include Alaska), its a great ride but the poor visibility ruins the views.
The scenery should be good with steep forested slopes dropping to sandy beaches but the weather makes taking any pictures a waste of time so we head inland & the weather starts to improve.
Our stop is in Aberdeen on Grays Harbour, this logging town has suffered badly due to falling employment in the industry with many empty buildings, it is however home to a few strange creatures such as the 'Pile Python'.
It's also home to the 'D&R Theatre' where many famous bands have played with The Temptations also performing later this year.
How odd to also find a Star Wars shop & a renovated old time Shell garage housing an old MG plus several other 1950 American Classics!
Leaving town in the morning you can see the remaining sawmills & wood processing plants bellowing smoke along the shores of the Chehalis River.
Another day another National Park, this time its Mount Rainier & we enter from Route 7 close to Elbe where you can stay in a converted caboose & have your 'meals on wheels' in the restaurant car.
Hot springs make for some colourful vegetation alongside the 'Trail of the Shadows'.
The National Park Inn can be found at Longmire which was the original site of a private hotel for bathing in the healing waters.
The weather started out overcast but now it's glorious sunshine, everything looks better in good weather & the Rainbow is out at Narada Falls, this was also a very refreshing shot as we are beginning to steam in the riding gear.
The twisty roads rise to over 1600m so some great views are to be had in all directions.
Mount Rainier of course dominates the skyline with it's 25 glaciers, the most on any single mountain in North America.
No blog entry is complete without a picture of a lake to finish so here is one of Louise Lake.
